Seminole shortstop/RHP Alex McGathey has verbally committed to the University of North Florida, according to Warhawks coach Jeff Pincus. McGathey, who will be a senior next season, hit .359 with 10 RBIs last season. He also stole eight bases.

As a pitcher, McGathey was 8-0 with a 0.15 earned run average. He struck out 52 and walked 21. Like teammate Brett Phillips, who was selected in the sixth round of the MLB draft by the Astros in June, McGathey is likely to be a high pick in next year’s draft.

North Florida was 31-24 last season, 12-15 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Ospreys are coached by Raymond “Smoke’’ Laval, who was the head coach at LSU from 2002-06.
