Jeffrey Shank has been named boys basketball coach at Gulf, athletic director Travis DeWalt announced Wednesday.
Shank, 31, coached football and basketball at Hernando from 2007-10 before coaching football, basketball and track at Seminole last year. This will be Shank's first varsity head coaching job.
"It's going to be my program now, so I can kind of mold it in the way I want it to be run," Shank said. "I like the challenge of overseeing everything."
Shank said he became familiar with Gulf after seeing some of its players at recreation centers when he lived near there. The Detroit native said he liked their toughness and physical play, which reminded him of Michigan basketball.
"When that opportunity came up, it felt like the right thing to do," Shank said.
Shank will serve as quarterbacks and running backs coach for the Buccaneers and will teach environmental science and biology.
He replaces Buck DeWitt, who resigned this summer for personal reasons.
