Gulf boys basketball coach Jeffrey Shank has been dismissed by the school district as a science teacher, according to spokeswoman Summer Romagnoli.
Romagnoli said Shank was dismissed as a teacher during his probationary period. The decision was not related to athletics but no further details were immediately available.
Shank had previously said he resigned his positions as coach and science teacher to spend more time with his infant son and 2-year-old daughter.
“What I always try to tell the kids is, family comes first,” Shank said. “I’m trying to live by that example. Family is first.”
Buccaneers athletic director Travis DeWalt confirmed that Shank is no longer employed by the school but declined to comment further.
DeWalt said the school will post the job opening in the near future and plans to fill it “as soon as possible.”
Gulf hired Shank, a former assistant at Seminole, in August. It was his first head coaching job. The Bucs finished 10-14 last season.
