Shorecrest's Marc Brakeman, the Times 2010 county pitcher of the year, made the roster for the 2010 under-16 national team.
The trials started two weeks ago in Woodlands, Texas and a list of 39 invitees was whittled down to a final roster of 20 by the end of the trials. The team is now in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico, where it is undefeated in the COPABE "AA" Pan-Am Youth Championships. The U16 National team has won the past five titles in its division.
Brakeman, a junior, had a breakthrough season in 2010, leading the Chargers to the Class 2A state championship game against Miami Westminster Christian. In the Pan-Am Youth Championships, he has a double in his only plate appearance and has thrown a scoreless inning in which he struck out two batters.
