After leading Shorecrest to the Class 2A state baseball championship game, Marc Brakeman started receiving accolades locally. He was named the Times all-Pinellas County pitcher of the year and was a first-team selection to the Times all-suncoast team.

Now, he is getting noticed nationally.

Maxpreps recently published a list of its small-school All-Americans and top underclassmen in the country. Brakeman was on two of those lists, earning second team honors as a small-school All-American and being named one of the top 30 sophomores in the country.

Other top sophomores include Jesuit's Lance McCullers, who led the Tigers to the 4A state final.

This past season, Brakeman struck out 115 batters in 76 innings and posted a 1.75 ERA.
