The St. Petersburg-Boca Ciega boy’s soccer match was stopped about 15 minutes into the second half Wednesday night because of gun shots in the Gulfport neighborhood.

The Green Devils led the Pirates 5-0 when an announcement was made to clear the field.

“We had heard something earlier, but we kept playing,” said St. Petersburg coach Rui Farias, whose team gets a victory. “But then they made an announcement that they were stopping the game, and for everyone to calmly clear the field. I guess there were gun shots about 10 blocks from the school.”

There was no other information on the incident was immediately available.
