Sickles football coach Pat O'Brien, whose Gryphons earned a 31-28 overtime win over Boca Ciega last week that nearly put them in the playoffs, was named the Tampa Bay Buccaneers High School Coach of the Week.
Bucs coach Raheem Morris will present O'Brien with a certificate and personalized football following Thursday's morning walkthrough at One Buc Place, where O'Brien will receive a tour of the team's training facility.
The Sickles football team will also receive a $1,000 check as part of the award.
In a do-or-die game Friday night, the Gryphons came back from a 22-7 halftime deficit to force overtime and then following an interception by Chris Nahat in the end zone, won the game on a 37-yard field goal by Andres Vazquez.
Sickles (5-1), which hosts Durant (5-1) this week, can clinch its second playoff berth in school history (2007) with a win over Leto in two weeks.
