The moment news broke Monday night that Sickles football coach Pat O'Brien had stepped down and offensive coordinator Brian Turner had been hired to replace him, questions began surfacing about the whirlwind process.

How was Turner hired so quickly? Doesn't the principal first have to advertise the job? Was there a behind-the-scenes negotiation?

Well, we contacted Sickles principal Jake Russell for answers to your inquiries. Today, he obliged us with the following response via e-mail.

"I conducted an internal search here at Sickles and Brian Turner was selected," Russell wrote.

"Brian was already a teacher at Sickles High School. I was not required to post the position outside of Sickles unless the internal search did not work out. We are extremely excited about Coach Turner leading our football program."

Turner, 44, will teach physical education at Sickles this year.
