Sickles senior center Amber Henson has been selected as one of 24 players across the nation to play in the McDonald's Girls Basketball All-American Game in March.
Henson, a Duke recruit who is ranked the No. 20 overall prospect in the nation by ESPN, will play for the East team. This year's McDonald's All-American games will be played on March 30 at the United Center in Chicago. The girls game is slated for 7:30 p.m. and will air live on ESPNU.
Henson will be one of two players from Florida to play in the game. Lake Mary forward Morgan Jones, a Northwestern recruit, will also play. Henson will also be joined by fellow Duke recruit Elizabeth Williams of Virginia Beach (Va.) Princess Anne.
A back-to-back Times' Hillsborough County Player of the Year, Henson entered tonight's Class 5A region quarterfinal game against Charlotte averaging 21.3 points, 13.6 rebounds and 7.1 blocks a game this season. Henson scored 26 points in the Gryphons' 58-51 win over Charlotte on Thursday night.
In what has to be a rarity, Henson's older brother, John, played in the boys McDonald's All-American Game two years ago in Miami. Henson is now a sophomore playing at North Carolina.
