A signing recap from Canterbury

The Canterbury football program held a signing ceremony in the school auditorium Monday morning for the players who accepted scholarship offers to play in college. According to coach Stephen Dudley, they are the first players in school history to receive football scholarships.

To recap, the players to sign were:

Dominique Thornton (above): Canterbury's QB for two seasons signed with Tuskegee University (Ala.) and will play QB for the Golden Tigers.

Bryce Wilson (below): Canterbury's leading WR and a defensive standout signed with Tennessee State. He is projected as a FS or OLB.

Also …

Canterbury standout Jeremy Dolan has received offers from both Wingate and Newberry College, but has yet to sign. “We continue receiving calls from a variety of college coaches prepared to offer him,” Dudley said. “It just needs to be the right fit academically and athletically. We're confident he'll sign in the coming weeks.”

Of the group, Dudley had plenty of praise.

“These players have elevated the Canterbury football program in a big way,“ he said. “These guys have not only been great players for us, they have been great examples to our younger guys. They proved that no matter how small of a school you come from, if you work hard and stay committed to your goals you can get to the next level. We are so proud of these guys and wish them all of life's best as they move on from Canterbury."
