Land O'Lakes senior Frank Villar is out for the season after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and partial meniscus tear, Gators coach Mark Pearson confirmed Thursday.

Villar, a starting midfielder and captain, suffered the injury during the Wharton Invitational in a 1-0 win against Plant. No statistics were available for Villar.

"His loss is significant as he is a starter," Pearson wrote in an e-mail. "...He has surgery next week, he is out for the rest of our season and then some."

Land O'Lakes claimed the No. 1 seed in Class 4A, District 8 and will face the winner of Zephyrhills-Lecanto on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
