Lakewood pitcher Mariah Watts waited two years to officially sign with Wisconsin. Friday morning in front of friends, coaches, administrators and even some members of the Lakewood band, Watts finally got her chance to sign a letter of intent.
“It’s gone by really fast,’’ said Watts, who verbally committed to the Badgers as a sophomore. “I loved my visit up there. It was a lot of fun and knew that’s the school I wanted to go to.’’
As a junior, Watts was 13-5 with a 0.63 ERA and 166 strikeouts. She pitched every game for the Spartans. Watts said she plans on studying journalism and mass communications at Wisconsin.
Wisconsin’s softball team was 44-13 in 2012 and qualified for the NCAA regional tournament.
