St. Petersburg Catholic sophomore centerfielder Jacob McFadden orally committed to South Florida on Wednesday. As a freshman, McFadden hit .360 while starting every game for the Barons in the outfield. He considered UCF before choosing the Bulls.

"He had a very good season and then put on about 10 pounds of muscle in the off season,'' SPC coach John Vigue said. "He went to a lot of showcase tournaments and got noticed. I'm very happy for him. Now he doesn't have to worry about the recruiting part of it.''

Vigue said McFadden will once again start in centerfield this season and bat near the top of the order. The high school baseball season begins for the Barons on Feb. 15 against Dixie Hollins
