St Petersburg Catholic's Jerica Coley, the Times reigning girls basketball Player of the Year, said Wednesday at practice she has orally committed to Florida International University and will sign in the next week or so.

Coley averaged 22.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.4 steals and four assists last season is leading the surprising Barons back to the playoffs. SPC was expected to be rebuilding, but Coley came into her own and carried them to the Class 3A region semifinals after a 32-point, 18-rebound effort in the region quarterfinals.

Coley had a handful of offers, including two from out of state, but decided she wanted to play close to home.
