Keswick Christian

Coach: Rick Sanson (13th season, 59-67)

Last season: 1-9

District: Class B, District 5

Key losses: OL/DL Scott Oliver

Who’s back: RB/DB Jaylin Coleman, OL/LB Zac Cook, WR/DB Armani Lonardo, OL/LB Derek Sanson, RB/LB Andrew Logue, RB/DB DeJuan Wright

What’s new: The Crusaders missed the playoffs last season for the first time in six years due mostly to an inexperienced roster. The payoff should come this year with Keswick returning all but two players. Coleman is back at quarterback, where he can take advantage of his athleticism to make plays on the ground or through the air. Wright, who showed flashes of brilliance last season, will be the main ball carrier and see extensive action in the return game. Both players should benefit from an experienced line that loses just one starter (Oliver). Keswick, however, will not have returning lineman Will Foster available this spring. Foster is out after being hit in the eye during baseball season and is not cleared to workout until June. The strength of the defense is the linebackers, where Cook, Logue and Sanson are all back. The kicking game will be on more solid footing with Lonardo, who was unable to kick last season because of a hip injury. The Crusaders suffered without him and used four different kickers.

Audible: “Whether we can contend for a playoff spot depends on how hard the guys work in the summer.” — Sanson

Did you know? Wright came on at the end of last season, scoring a combined five touchdowns (four rushing, one return) in the final two games.
