Largo

Coach: Rick Rodriguez (12th season, 89-29)

District: Class 4A, District 10

Last season: 9-3 (lost 49-3 to Armwood in the region semifinals)

Key losses: WR/DB Jamarious Boatwright, TE/DE Mike Douglas, RB/DB Myrick Gwyn, FB/LB Sean Holte, OL Austin Jenquine, RB/DB D.J. Key, OL Stephan Konjanovski, DL Austin Mai, DL Taylor Montgomery, QB Jamar Riley, QB Alex Skinner, OL/DL Alex Rodriguez, RB/DB Jayson Wine

Who’s back: LB Shawn Barker, QB Juwan Brown, LB Harry Brown, WR/DB Lakeif Daniels, OL George Koceja, RB/LB Derrick Doss, LB Chris Johnson, OL Cellen Phillips, DL Devin Porter, DL Chris Skukalek, DL Adarius Rayner

What’s new: The Packers will have one of their youngest teams in years with just five rising seniors. The majority of the starters will be sophomores and juniors. Juwan Brown, a rising sophomore, is back at quarterback. He started the final eight games last season, including two in the playoffs, and gave the offense some oomph with his dual-threat capabilities. One of the big questions this spring is finding a replacement for running back Key, who is graduating. The leading candidates are Doss and Claxton Boykin. The offensive line also has to be revamped after losing nearly every starter. On defense, the line is the strength with four returnees, including Raynor, the team’s top college recruit with offers from Colorado State, Illinois State, Iowa State and Youngstown State. The linebackers were young last year but gained valuable experience. The kicking has plenty of depth with Charlie Howe and Morgan Sever both returning.

Audible: “We’re a young team, basically like a junior varsity team right now. But these guys are working hard. They don’t care what grade they’re in. They’ll go out and get after people.” — Rodriguez

Did you know? Largo has never fared well in spring games, losing eight of 11 since Rodriguez took over as coach.
