A daily spring preview of every football program in Pinellas County
Coach: Joe Fabrizio (fifth season, 26-19)
Last season: 10-2 (lost 21-7 to Bradenton Manatee in the region semifinals)
District: Class 5A, District 9
Key losses: RB/DB Dondre Davis, DL Dominic James, K/WR Devon Papandrew, RB Ben Sams, RB Mike Seay, RB Malik Wilson
Who’s back: OL Henrick Bang, LB Nick Butler, OL Taylon Culbreth, WR Marquel Davis, QB David Jones, OL Nathan Letzring, RB Rashad Lewis, DB Stevie Murph, LB Jamone Myrick, LB Cody Pogorelc, CB Trey Robinson, OL Tyler Sweetland, P Raeshaun Washington
What’s new: The offensive line is the strength of this team with four of five starters from last year returning. The leaders on the line are Culbreth and Sweetland. The experience of this group should help offset the loss of the Green Devils’ top two backs, Sams and Wilson, who are graduating. The bulk of the carries will likely go to Lewis, a speedster who will go from a change-of-pace back to more of a full-time role. Jones, a mobile quarterback, is back and could go downfield more to his favorite target, Marquel Davis. On defense, the biggest losses are James on the line and Dondre Davis in the secondary. The strength will be the linebackers, where Butler, Myrick and Pogorelc all return. St. Petersburg also has to find a replacement for Papandrew. But the Green Devils do return punter Washington
Audible: “Everyone is revved up and we expect to do bigger and better things. We hope to get at least to the second round of the playoffs again and maybe go beyond that.” — Fabrizio.
Did you know? St. Petersburg made the second round of the playoffs for the second straight season in 2009, the first time the Green Devils had done that in school history.
