At Carrollwood Day
Score: Carrollwood Day 41, Sarasota Cardinal Mooney 41

Spring game-breakers: Rising senior Robert Davis had his helmet popped off, his knee banged up and struggled to find running room in two quarters, but a 72-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was vintage Davis as he slipped, dodged and shed tacklers along the way.

Rising senior Andy Embody scored five touchdowns: one rushing, two receiving, one passing and a pick-six.

Two audibles foreshadowed what coach Lane McLaughlin has in store for the CDS offense. The first came early in the game as Davis audibled from the slot. After a fake toss to Davis and a short pitch to Embody the opposite way, Embody scooted into the end zone virtually untouched.

Later in the half Embody was in at quarterback and rising senior Dominiq Sicardo was split out wide. The defender had no chance against Sicardo as he hauled in the touchdown pass.

Some lesser-known players made their presence felt. Rising sophomores Elias Earley and Max Frankel made downfield blocks that enabled two touchdowns.

Did you know? Sicardo threw interceptions on his first two attempts but settled down and had two touchdown passes in the second half. He was also effective from his linebacker spot, putting pressure on the Cardinal Mooney quarterback.

Audible 1: “Andy is the embodiment of CDS football.” — McLaughlin

Audible 2: “This was Sicardo’s coming out party tonight.” — McLaughlin
