At Clearwater Central Catholic
Score: Clearwater Central Catholic 21, Lakeland Victory Christian 6

Spring game-breakers: CCC could have a quarterback battle this summer between Jeff Smith and Blake Gomez. Both played well Thursday and led scoring drives. Smith, a dual-threat quarterback, threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Steve Pasquali. Gomez, last year’s starter, threw a 22-yard pass to Brandon Junk for a score. Junk was the top target for both quarterbacks and had three receptions for 114 yards and a score. Jacobi Adderly also had three receptions, all on intermediate routes. The running game was by committee. JT Steele broke off a few runs on the outside and had more than 40 yards rushing. … Despite missing a few starters, CCC played well on defense, recording three sacks and holding Victory to seven first downs.

Did you know? The game was played as a controlled scrimmage with each team alternating 10 plays on offense from its own 40-yard line. … The Marauders were missing several starters. Defensive lineman Justus Reed and fullback/linebacker Connor Dorris had to sit out because they transferred during the semester. Linebacker Caanan Brown is still recovering from a shoulder injury. Running back Diquan Walker was suspended for disciplinary reasons.

Audible: “We saw some good things out there, but there’s a lot we have to tie up. Some of that has to do with guys being out, but the good thing was we were able to give some other guys experience.” — CCC coach John Davis
