Score: Nature Coast 34, Lecanto 8
Spring game-breakers: Working out four quarterbacks for the starting job during the game, the front-runner seems to be rising junior Luis Espinosa. After throwing only two passes last season without a completion, he threw three touchdowns in the game, connecting with rising senior RB Matt Breida for 35 yards, rising junior WR Rohan Blackwood for 20 yards, and rising sophomore WR Jonathan Thomas for 20 yards. … The Sharks will play a number of players both ways, including Blackwood and Joey Berrios. Berrios was solid starting at both offensive guard and linebacker. … Although special teams were not live, rising sophomore Austin Lacy looked comfortable on kickoffs and PATs.
Did you know? The varsity played the first three quarters exclusively before the junior varsity came in to get work in the fourth quarter. The Sharks led 28-0 at the end of three. … Nature Coast dressed 55 players, all of whom saw action. … Lecanto went 4-6 in Class 6A under first-year coach McKinley Rolle last season, and the Panthers are looking to get something going after years of disappointing seasons on the gridiron. … After taking over just before the fall campaign, Nature Coast coach Charles Liggett is in his first spring camp. The time will give him the chance install the veer offensive set in hopes of opening up a dormant Shark passing attack.
Audible 1: “We’ve got the car started and down the street, but it’s going to need some things to happen before we’re ready for a longer trip.” — Liggett, on how his offense is progressing
