River Ridge 43, Fivay 0

Spring game-breakers: River Ridge entered the spring with questions surrounding who would replace star running back Ben Perdomo, but the Royal Knights may have found their answer in Chris Schwarz. The rising junior, who missed five games last season with a shoulder injury, pummeled visiting Fivay’s defense with 13 carries for 116 yards and helped set up two first-half touchdowns. …River Ridge quarterback Patrick Mathieson was perfect, completing 7-of-7 passes for 212 yards and four touchdowns, including a 75-yarder to Dillon O’Toole. …Trevor Duke (two interceptions) and Brenden Boniol (one) helped River Ridge stymie Fivay’s offense by holding freshman quarterback Doran Cyler to 5-of-18 with 7 yards and the rest of the Falcons’ offense to 89 total.

Did you know? Fivay’s Jacob Hindman attempted two fake punts, both rushes, which were successful for first downs.

Audible 1: “I’ve got to give it up to my offensive linemen. They put in the work and are the workhorses of our team. We rely on them so much and they’re the reason we have so much success. It’s not all me. It’s all five of those guys.” — Mathieson

Audible 2:  “It was important for us to come out with a good showing, because we ask a lot of our players and they work their butts off. Good things happen to people that work hard. We do the right thing on the field and in the classroom. They just had to stay on the grind and that’s what they did and it showed.” — River Ridge coach Ryan Benjamin
