SPRING HILL – Springstead decided not to renew the supplemental contract of girls soccer coach Polo Furlong for the next school year, instead hiring Scott Wern to take the reins of the program heading into the 2011-12 season.
Furlong, who led the Eagles for the past six seasons, had just guided Springstead to its best campaign, advancing to the region semifinals after a win over Plant City. He compiled 91 wins and five playoff appearances in his tenure. He also led the Eagles to three district titles.
This will be Wern’s first high school coaching experience. His daughter Renee is a rising junior defender for Springstead.
