Springstead dual-threat quarterback Brian Beeker, who led the Eagles to a 6-6 record and a spot in the Class 4A region semifinals in 2010, is headed for Pace University after signing a letter-of-intent with the Setters today.
Beeker is receiving a financial package from Pace based on athletics and academics.
The 5-foot-9, 160 pounder completed 48% of his passes, going 57-for-119 for 855 yards and eight touchdowns. On the ground is where Beeker did most of his damage against opponents, rushing 195 times for 1,251 yards (an average of six yards a carry) and six scores. Beeker also caught two passes, including one for a touchdown.
Beeker earned second team all-North Suncoast honors at quarterback from the St. Petersburg Times following his senior season.
Pace University is a Division II school. The Setters, members of the Northeast-10 Conference, play home games at their Pleasantville, N.Y., campus.
