Springstead sends five to college

Five Springstead athletes signed with colleges this week, including all-Suncoast LB Luke McLeod.

McLeod signed with NCAA Division-II Harding University in Searcy, Ark. He led the Eagles’ swarming defense with 149 tackles (11 for a loss) during Springstead’s district title run.

All-around athlete Pedro Estrada signed to play football at Norwich University in Vermont. He recorded 82 tackles and three interceptions as a senior. He also rushed for two touchdowns and caught another.

Lineman Ethan Kemp, a 5-foot-11, 278-pound senior, is headed to Springfield College in Massachusetts. He was also a state qualifier in the shot put.

LB Joe Predoehl signed with NAIA Presentation College (S.D.) after a 73-tackle senior season. Despite a 5-8, 147-pound frame, he made a game-saving tackle in a win over Anclote and starred in a win over Fivay by intercepting a pass, recovering a fumble and scoring on a punt he blocked.

Joe Russo signed to wrestle at Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. Russo won a Class 2A, District 7 championship as a senior and finished fourth at regionals in the 152-pound weight class. His Eagles won their third consecutive state title this winter.
