Springstead two-way lineman John McCloskey will make his college plans official today when he signs with Division III Maryville College in a 1:30 p.m. ceremony at Springstead High.

Behind the 5-foot-9, 215 pound McCloskey, Springstead rushed for over 2,600 yards of offense in 2010. On the defensive line, McCloskey amassed 21 tackles.

Springstead finished the 2010 season with a 6-6 record and advanced to the Class 4A region semifinals, defeating Wiregrass Ranch 40-8 in the postseason before falling to Gainesville 30-7. The Eagles were the Class 4A, District 8 runners-up. 

McCloskey was a St. Petersburg Times' All-North Suncoast first team selection as an offensive lineman in 2010.

Maryville College is located in Maryville, Tenn. McCloskey received a scholarship package for athletics and academics.
