Shannon Cataldo helped Springstead capture the third softball district title in school history this spring.
Next season, Cataldo will continue her softball career after signing today with Warner University, a NAIA school located in Lake Wales.
Cataldo said she will play first base for the Royals. She also had an offer from Salem International University in Salem, W.Va.
"It's a small school, which is what I was looking for," she said. "I know some of the girls on the team, so I felt comfortable there. Plus they have a good program for what I want to study, sports exercise."
Cataldo played first base for Springstead as a junior and senior. In her final year with the Eagles, Cataldo batted .372 -- fifth best on the team -- with 18 runs, eight hits, two doubles and 22 RBIs. She was a St. Petersburg Times' All-North Suncoast honorable mention pick following her senior season.
Springstead won a school record 21 games in 2011 and finished the season 21-3.
Cataldo joins former Springstead standout Rebecca Powell at Warner University. Powell is a junior right-handed pitcher and first baseman for the Royals.
