St. Petersburg's Shane Crutchfield, a three-time defending district champion, has orally committed to Xavier University she told the Times today.
Crutchfield also considered offers from Stetson, Georgetown and North Florida.
"Xavier was definitely the most appealing because of what they could offer me, and their business school is one of the top-ranked schools in the country," Crutchfield said. "They have great facilities. They're about to break ground on a new indoor golf facility. I think it's definitely a team on the rise."
Crutchfield, going into her senior year with the Green Devils, has won a district title each of her three seasons at St. Pete. Last season, she was second at regionals after shooting 67 and losing a two-hole playoff for first place. She was 12th at the Class 2A state tournament, carding 11-over 155 through two rounds.
Crutchfield won district and regional titles as a sophomore and tied for 20th at the Class 2A state finals at 10-over 154. She was named to the Times' All-Pinellas girls golf first team the past two seasons. She was a second team selection as a freshman.
With her college decision out of the way, Crutchfield said her main focus for the season is to finish as the best player in the county.
"I definitely have a goal of being county player of the year," she said. "Win districts, regionals and hopefully make a run at states."
Xavier is located in Cincinnati, Ohio, and plays Division I golf in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
