After losses to Countryside and Sarasota Riverview in the past two weeks, St. Petersburg dropped out of contention for the top seed in Class 6A, District 7 and needed a spark.
The Green Devils got it with a 56-50 victory over North Port, which was previously undefeated against district competition.
Gabe Moton led St. Petersburg with 22 points, including 11 of 13 on free throws.
“We’ve lost some real close games that came down to the wire,” Green Devils coach Chris Blackwell said. “But we’re capable of beating anyone in the district.”
