St. Petersburg placekicker Sean Covington is starting to get some national recognition, at least from a new website that rates high school kickers. Covington was named an honorable mention All-American by Prokicker.com, the inaugural list by the website.
The site ranks kickers, punters, kickoff specialists and long snappers. Covington, a junior, made seven field goals and 27 extra points this past season. He also punted 22 times for a 43-yard average. He is also a goalkeeper for the Green Devils soccer team.
"Our staff has personally watched these players and worked with these players during camps,'' Prokicker.com founder Rick Sang said in a news release. "We've seen them and know what they can do.''
The top kicker selected was Harrison Butker of Atlanta, Ga. Nick Tankersley of Bradenton Manatee was selected as a second-team kicker.
