For the first time since 2006, Gibbs has won a baseball game.

The Gladiators beat St. Petersburg 6-1 on Wednesday to snap an 83-game losing streak.

"The gorilla is finally off our back," Gibbs coach Shawn Siede said.

Against the Green Devils, Gibbs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning and held on. Jacob Laird threw a complete game and gave up five hits. Corey Housman and James Koombs each had two hits for the Gladiators.

"We've been in games in the past but we just weren't able to put it all together," Siede said. "This is the best I've seen them play. Hopefully this will light a fire under them the rest of the season."
