Sunlake has hired Mark Hall as its next boys basketball coach. Seahawks athletic director Russ Schenk confirmed the move Tuesday night.

Hall, 28, comes from Seminole High where he coached JV basketball and taught math. He will teach math in addition to taking over the varsity coaching position at Sunlake.

Hall attended Pasco County schools as a child including one year at Hudson before moving to Ohio to help his grandmother, whose health was failing. He earned district honors at Barnsville (Ohio) as a senior before attending Muskingum (Ohio) College where he played JV basketball. He eventually became a student assistant.

Hall's father, Larry, has taught at Hudson Middle for 26 years. His mother, Susan, has taught at Schrader Elementary for 24 years. Hall also is childhood friends with Ridgewood coach Mike Bua.

Hall did not immediately return a message seeking comment. He replaces Bob Marinak, who resinged in February.

Marinak, who was Sunlake's first coach, took the job after four seasons at Countryside. He also coached at North Marion where in two seasons he turned a 6-20 team into a 14-15 team.

At Sunlake, Marinak's teams showed consistent improvement. The Seahawks went 3-24 in 2007-08, 9-17 in 2008-09 and 11-15 last season.
