The quarterback battle could last all season, but Sunlake has named this week's starter.

Gulf transfer Jacob Jackson will start against Wiregrass Ranch on Friday night. Seahawks senior Tommy Velez could see playing time.

"Each has their own strength," Sunlake coach Bill Browning said. "It may be I go with the quarterback with the hot hand at that time."

Velez brings experience to the position and he knows Sunlake's system better, Browning said.
Jackson has a lot of raw talent and running ability, Browning said.

Browing said both quarterbacks played well in last week's preseason game and both had an "excellent" week at practice.

"We want the competition because it's going to make them both better," Browning said. "It's nice to finally have some competiton."
