Sunlake MF Carlos Herrera became the first in program history to claim a scholarship signing with Southeastern University, an NAIA school in Lakeland.

"It is very exciting to see your program's first player sign a scholarship and it opens the door for our future players," Sunlake coach Sam Koleduk wrote in an e-mail. "Carlos will be playing defense for Southeastern University."

Herrera scored 11 goals and notched 24 assists for 46 points as a senior. He was a three-year varsity starter and team captain.

"Carlos is a great soccer player, but an even better person," Koleduk said.
