Senior Wes Sever's goal in the 21st minute has given Tampa Prep a 1-0 halftime lead against defending champ Delray Beach American Heritage in the Class 2A boys soccer final at Pepin Stadium.

Sever, dashing toward the goal with a defender in tow, took a long midfield shot from Jake Peterson and appeared to just get enough of an outstretched leg on it to tap it past Stallions keeper Fabiano Chaves.

It was one of several prime scoring chances for the Terrapins, who are playing literally across the street from their Cass Street campus. In the second minute, Sever's header, on a brisk cross from Anthony Baumann, sailed over the crossbar. A Peterson header bounced off the left post in the 15th minute.

American Heritage appeared to tie the score in the 27th minute on a header by Khori Foster, but the Stallions were whistled for being offside.
