The Tarpon Springs football team will have a new starting QB for this week’s third-round playoff game at Orlando Edgewater.

Wyatt Wikle is in; Louis Pappas is out.

“It’s a feel thing,” Spongers coach George Kotis said.

Wikle, a junior, actually has started before. In fact, he was Tarpon’s first-string QB during the team’s first seven games and went 5-2 with losses to East Lake and Countryside. He has thrown for 759 yards, 6 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Pappas, a sophomore whom Kotis thinks has a bright future, was 5-0 as a starter. But last week, he completed only one pass and fumbled twice, leading to two opponent touchdowns in a 35-28 win over Gainesville.

“Louis did a great job getting us through Round 2,” Kotis said.

According to Kotis, the switch “isn’t necessarily for the rest of the season.”
