Tarpon Springs defensive back Maurice Turner has committed to Morningside College in Iowa, Spongers coach Ron Hawn said.

Turner helped the Spongers improve on defense due in large part for his knack of creating turnovers. He ranked among the state leaders in interceptions with five and had a fumble recovery.

The interest from colleges did not pick up, though, until the past month. He picked the Mustangs over Minnesota Crookston.

Morningside College went 11-2 this past season (9-1 regular season) and advanced to the third round of the NAIA championship series. Former USF coach Jim Leavitt was an assistant at Morningside from 1982-87.
