Tampa Bay Tech rising senior linebacker Fred Russ announced Wednesday that he has orally committed to Florida International.

“Just coming down from my visit to FIU and now I’m officially a #panther,” Russ said via Twitter.

Russ committed to FIU only a week after receiving a scholarship offer from the school, which remains his first and only offer. He visited the campus Wednesday during one of its football camps.

The 5-foot-10, 220-pound Russ had a team-leading 86 tackles, eight of them for a loss, and caused two fumbles for the Titans last year. He’ll be one of the leaders this fall for a team that returns four of its seven leading tacklers from 2012.
