Terps' Morgan, Fenlon earn state honors

Tampa Prep senior two-guard Devontae Morgan, the top scorer and defensive catalyst for the state champion Terrapins, has been named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A player of the year.

Terps coach Joe Fenlon, whose state crown was his first in 29 seasons at the school, was named 3A coach of the year.

The pair was chosen in a balloting of statewide coaches and media representatives. They automatically become eligible for the state’s Mr. Basketball and Coach of the Year awards to be announced at a later time.

A Butler University signee, Morgan led Tampa Prep in scoring (15.6 ppg) and steals (3.2), while ranking second in rebounds (5.9) and assists (3.3). He finished his career as the only Hillsborough County player to compete in four state tournaments.

Fenlon, who earned career victory No. 600 in early January, has led Tampa Prep to eight final fours.
