Tampa Prep sixth man Marshall Holmes, whose dizzying scoring sequence in the final two minutes of the Class 3A state final sealed the championship for the Terrapins, has transferred to Berkeley Prep.
Terrapins coach Joe Fenlon confirmed Holmes' move Tuesday.
Tampa Prep's third-leading scorer last season, Holmes averaged 10.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 steals as a key reserve for a 31-1 team that handed Fenlon his first state title in 29 seasons. But it's his eleventh-hour heroics in the final against Weston Sagemont that will leave an indelible image in the minds of Terps fans.
His team leading by two, Holmes hit a baseline 3-pointer with 1:46 to play. Seconds later, he stepped in a Sagemont passing lane, stole the ball and sped down the other end for an uncontested, game-clinching dunk.
Despite Holmes' departure, four of the Terps' top seven players from last season's rotation — including PG Josh Heath and 6-foot-8 center Adonis Rwabigwi — return.
