The greatest track and field season of Hillsborough rising senior Jeremiah Green's life just got a bit more prosperous.
Green recorded a personal-record 50-foot, 10.25-inch effort in the triple jump to win the event Friday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. None of the 15 other competitors reached 49 feet.
Friday's performance at North Carolina A&T University eclipsed his previous personal-best (50-6.5) set at the Charles Johnson Invitational in February. Green's triumphant effort came on his last attempt; he recorded earlier jumps of 50-5 and 50-8.
A 5-foot-8, 155-pound three-way star for the Terriers football team, Green won the triple jump (50-3.5) at the Class 3A state meet in May. He placed fifth in the event at the New Balance Indoors in New York.
Also shining Friday in the girls heptathlon competition was Admiral Farragut rising sophomore Brittany McGee. Less than two months after winning three medals at the 1A state meet, McGee placed eighth in the 200 meters (26.18 seconds), sixth in the 100 (15.26), fourth in the high jump (5-3.75) and 12th in the shot put (27-6.5).
