Three former Pinellas County soccer standouts, Zac MacMath, Ben Sweat and Korey Veeder, were among 24 players called up for a US under-20 soccer camp last month in Sunrise.
The team trained Dec. 12-19 and played two friendlies against Canada on Dec. 16 and Dec. 18. The camp was one of the last opportunities for coach Thomas Rongen and his staff to make evaluations before April's CONCACAF championships.
MacMath, who is from St. Petersburg and attended Bradenton Academy, helped Maryland win the NCAA title in 2008 by making two key saves. He recently finished his junior season and is expected to turn pro.
Sweat, who helped Palm Harbor University reach the state title last season and was the Times County player of the year, recently finished his freshman season at South Florida.
Veeder played at Dixie Hollins and last year played for Crystal Palace Baltimore in the USSF Division 2 professional league.
MacMath and Veeder were among 25 who were selected for a 10-day U-20 camp that started Jan. 2.
