East Lake defensive back George Campbell, Jesuit running back Kevin Newman and Armwood defensive lineman Byron Cowart have been named to the MaxPreps 2011 U.S. Air Force Freshman All-American team.

Campbell had 81 tackles and two interceptions last year starting in a young but very promising defensive backfield for the Eagles, who advanced to the region championship before losing to eventual state champ Plant.

He is the only Tampa Bay player picked for first team.

Newman, who ran for almost 500 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, was picked for second team as an athlete, while Cowart was a second-team pick on defense.

Berkeley Prep quarterback Brad Mayes was an honorable mention.
