Seminole catcher Michael Mann, Plant first baseman Pete Alonso and Gaither infielder Oscar Mercado are three of 24 players selected to represent south/central Florida at the East Coast Pro Showcase on Aug. 1-4 in Syracuse, N.Y.

The showcase is comprised of six teams from the East region that play a game each day. The event is mainly for Major League Baseball scouts to assess players from the high school class of 2013.

As a junior for the Warhawks, Mann hit .405 with 19 RBIs and 13 doubles. He also threw out 11 of 14 would be basestealers. Mann has already verbally committed to the University of South Florida.

This past season at Plant, Alonso, a Florida commit, had a .485 average, 24 RBIs, 11 doubles, six home runs and a .912 slugging percentage.

Mercado, who has committed to Florida State, finished this past season hitting .370 with 29 RBIs.

Some players in last year's showcase included Jesuit's Lance McCullers, Bloomingdale's Richie Martin, King's Keon Barnum and the top overall pick in this year's draft, Carlos Correa.
