After coming off the bench in each of Jesuit's first two games, 6-foot-5 senior QB Tommy Eveld appears set to make his starting debut in Friday's district showdown at Robinson.
In an effort to jump-start his offense, Coach James Harrell said Monday he was leaning toward starting Eveld on Friday in a game that ultimately could determine the Class 5A, District 8 title. Harrell chose not to elaborate until he had a chance to meet with his players later in the day.
In two appearances in relief of 5-9 converted wideout Aaron Paulsen, including an extended one in Friday's 25-6 triumph against Middleton, Eveld is 23-for-38 for 217 yards with two TDs and two interceptions.
He finished 10-for-16 for 80 yards and a TD Friday after Paulsen moved outside following only a couple of series.
Eveld started in the spring jamboree and shined in various seven-on-seven tournaments during the summer, but Harrell made Paulsen the No. 1 entering the season based on his athleticism and overall fit in Jesuit's power run game.
In two contests, Paulsen is 6-for-7 for 72 yards and has only 7 yards on six carries, but has caught a team-high seven passes for 60 yards.
