Proudest academic accomplishment: Patton graduated seventh in her class with all-conference academic honors and the highest GPA in Zephyrhills’ JROTC program. Her volunteer experience ranges from Habitat for Humanity to the Special Olympics, and the future West Point student organized a physical fitness challenge for JROTC as the company’s commander. She also has worked 10-12 hours a week at a local seafood restaurant.

Proudest athletic accomplishment: Patton was one of Pasco County’s top all-around athletes. She was captain of the soccer team and earned third-team all-Sunshine Athletic Conference honors as a senior. Patton was a first-team pick last year. She placed ninth at state in weightlifting and took second in the conference track meet in the discus. Patton also shined in the pole vault, where she qualified for regionals as a freshman. She also lettered in cross country as a junior.

Did you know? Although Patton is accomplished in many school sports, her best athletic event might be judo. The black belt earned gold at the 2008 and ’09 USA Judo Youth and Scholastic National Championships and took third in a junior Olympic competition in ’09. She traveled to Hungary in 2009, where she placed seventh in the world championships in her age group.

Proudest academic accomplishment: Gazari accomplished his academic success despite initially struggling with the language. English is the Armenian native’s third language, after Armenian and Russian. He had problems at first after moving here at age 16 but adjusted to become Anclote’s outstanding senior and earn Sunshine Athletic Conference academic honors.

Proudest athletic accomplishment: A nagging foot injury got his cross country season off to a slow start. After becoming the school’s first state qualifier as a junior, he finished 19th as a senior. His track season was even better. Gazari — the Times’ North Suncoast track athlete of the year — claimed gold in the 3,200 meters (9:37.84) and took third in the 1,600.

Did you know? Gazari spends much of his spare time at work, stocking shelves for 30 hours a week at Sweetbay. He also trains hard, racking up miles on the road or playing basketball. Gazari plans to pursue a career in software engineering and already has relevant work experience. He redesigned the high school’s website and added a blog for the principal.
