Sickles basketball star Amber Henson isn’t just a top hoops talent; she’s a fan of the game. Because of that, the 6-foot-4 forward, arguably the state’s best female player, attended the Tampa Hoops Classic on Saturday at Plant.
“I like watching good basketball,” Henson said.
Most of us who attend basketball games follow the ball. Henson, on the other hand, kept her eyes on those not toting the rock in hopes of learning a few things. She was particularly interested in checking out nationally ranked Jersey City (N.J.) St. Anthony, which is known for its offensive movement and defensive pressure.
“I like to watch what people do without the ball,” Henson said. “There are so many good players I can learn from.”
Henson said Saturday her current favorites are Duke, Florida, LSU, Maryland, North Carolina, Stanford and Texas. Surprisingly, top-ranked UConn is not in the picture.
“They haven’t offered,” Henson said.
