It was a big day at Gaither on Tuesday, as two Cowboys pledged to play football for the Citadel, one of the country’s most well-known Division I-AA programs.
The players are:
-Jamal Allen, a 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back. Allen had 24 tackles and two interceptions last season.
-Derrick Bavol, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end. Bavol registered 81 tackles and three sacks as a senior. He caused two fumbles and blocked a field goal.
The Citadel plays in the ultra-competitive Southern Conference, along with programs such as Appalachian State, Furman and Georgia Southern -- all perennial I-AA powers.
The Bulldogs were 4-7 in 2009.
