The North Carolina football program continues to make a push in Tampa Bay.

A year ago, the Tar Heels signed two from here -- ATH Mywan Jackson and DB Angelo Hadley of Armwood.

Last month, they landed Gibbs DE Tim Jackson.

Now, UNC, which some think can contend for the Atlantic Coast Conference title next season, has jumped into the race for Alonso DE Anthony Chickillo, a rising senior. In a text message moments ago, the 6-foot-4, 230-pounder said the Tar Heels offered today.

Do they have a shot?

It’s far too early to tell, but consider this: Chickillo not only is a stud on the field (12.5 sacks in ‘09), but is an honor student. Few schools mix academics with athletics as well as UNC.
