Under Armour: Mom comes first with FSU, Alabama target Matthew Thomas

One of the lasting moments of the 2012 Under Armour All-America Game was the college announcement of top-ranked safety Landon Collins, who shocked his mother by committing to Alabama over her beloved LSU.

Don’t expect a similar scene when Miami Washington star Matthew Thomas makes his decision. ESPN’s No. 1 outside linebacker has visits set up for Alabama, Florida State, USC and Georgia and said the top factor in his choice will be the wishes of his mom.

“I’ll go anywhere and play,” Thomas said after Friday's high school all-star game at Tropicana Field. “Wherever she likes the best on my official visit, that’s where I’m going to end up at.”

And whoever impresses Thomas’ mother will land one of the country’s top uncommitted prospects. The five-star talent is ranked No. 18 nationally by Rivals and eighth overall by ESPN.

He made two of the top plays in Friday’s game, tallying one of Team Highlight’s four interceptions and delivering the bone-jarring hit below on QB Shane Morris.

“I was dropping into coverage,” Thomas said. “The quarterback, he took off running…I just filled the little hole.”
