Even USA Today likes Plant All-American football player James Wilder Jr. as a linebacker.
The newspaper named Wilder to its 23-player All-USA First-Team, which is in Thursday's editions. USA Today placed Wilder on defense at linebacker.
Wilder rushed for 1,597 yards and 22 touchdowns as a running back and made 75 tackles and 8 sacks on defense, leading the Panthers to the Class 5A state title game.
One of the nation's top recruits, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Wilder has committed to Florida State. While most colleges recruited Wilder as a linebacker, he will play running back for the Seminoles.
He's one of four players from Florida to earn first-team honors, joining Orlando Dr. Phillips RB Demetrius Hart (Michigan), St. Augustine Menendez LB Tony Steward and Dr. Phillips DB Ha'Sean Clinton-Nix (Alabama).
The All-USA high school football team was chosen by USA Today staff writer Jim Halley in consultation with high school coaches and recruiting analysts, including recruiting analysts Tom Lemming of CBS College Sports and Barry Every of Rivals.com.
